Miele’s top five tips on avoiding in-wash breakages

Miele laboratory washers are built to be safe by design, but in-wash breakages can always be a potential issue.

Whether it’s a crack or chip that means an item of glassware needs to be disposed of, or a full breakage that causes further in-wash damage or the need for a time-consuming clean out, there are a number of distracting problems that are always best avoided.

Our handy tips will help ensure a safe and successful wash every time.

1. Don’t overload

It can be tempting to cram in a few extra items to save time on a second wash, but incorrect loading can lead to loose items in the wash that can knock against each other or even fall.  Always make sure the wash load does not exceed the recommended capacity.

2. Use the correct accessories

The right accessories can help you wash smarter and increase capacity.  They also keep glassware held securely.  Use the correct size injector racks, invest in frames to hold larger items and covers to keep small items in place.

3. Plan your wash loads

Make the most of adjustable racking and basket placement to leave enough space for taller glassware.  This extra height allows superb cleaning while ensuring there are no scuffs or scratches.

4. Train your staff

Make sure all your team members know how to correctly load your washer, and are familiar with the range of accessories you have available, plus which to use to secure different items.  All operatives should be fully comfortable with how to use and load your machines to avoid any damage.

5. Take care

Glassware doesn’t simply break itself during a wash!  It’s the human factor that can lead to accidents.  For example, one of the most common causes of damage is pushing the baskets in too hard, causing glassware to jostle together.  With a little TLC and by following the above advice, your washer and your glassware will have long and successful lifespans.
