Holistic approach

Constantly improving sustainability performance

Lower consumption combined with improved performance and the best results

Return of appliances

At the end of their service life, our products in Europe are introduced into return systems and are transported to a specialist treatment facility. The materials contained in the appliances, such as metals, single-type plastics and glass, are recycled. Only a small volume of other materials is sent for disposal. Miele is actively involved in the continuous improvement of the return system. We advocate ambitious quality standards and support the fight against illegal trade of electrical appliances.

High degree of recyclability

Even in the very early stages of product development, we work to ensure that our products can easily be recycled later. Our appliances boast a very high level of recyclability when compared against the rest of the industry. This is because of their high metal content of up to 85 percent in domestic appliances and 90 percent in commercial ones. The metals used are almost 100 percent recyclable. The other materials and the techniques we use to join components also affect their final level of recyclability. We use plastics of the same type wherever possible to make recycling easier. Wherever possible and practical without affecting quality, Miele investigates whether recyclates or alternative materials can be used. We are currently conducting a pilot project to investigate the recovery of materials from old appliances. This material will then be used to manufacture new parts such as brackets and counterweights.
